The gospel that Jesus taught was about the Kingdom of God.
Mark 1:14-15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
There are 69 scriptures containing Kingdom of God in then in the NT.
Jesus said repent and believe in the Gospel (Kingdom of God) as it was at hand. This spiritual kingdom impacts the natural and physical world and will last forever (eternity).
We know that there is a Kingdom of Darkness and a Kingdom of God/Light. These Kingdoms are engaged in a war on this earth and the land is people. People control land, laws and much more. Satan wants to take people away from God as he hates them. We are Gods workmanship created to have a relationship with Him. Satan has been cast out of the Kingdom of God due to his pride of thinking that he was like God and wanting to be above God.
Healing is in the kingdom which can be seen in people’s bodies. Mark 1:31,34. Needs are met by the kingdom in our lives.
The King of Gods Kingdom is Jesus and all that God has belongs to Jesus. All that Jesus has belongs to us via the New Birth/Creation (New Man). As we are now in Him. He is our Lord and Saviour and all that He has is ours as we are joint heirs. So, what does He have, all power and authority has been given to Him and he has given us His name, the name of Jesus which is above every name. So we have His power and His authority to use on this earth for the benefit of all to enlarge the Kingdom. There is healing, freedom and provision is in this Kingdom.
Matthew 10:7 & 8 — “And as you go, preach saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you received, freely give.”
The good news is that our King Jesus has bestowed upon us His gift of righteousness and has redeemed us from the curse of the law of sin and death. Jesus provides all via the power of the Holy Spirit.
If we share with someone about what is in the Kingdom and demonstrate healing, we can say that the Kingdom has come near you. They must enter the Kingdom of God by repenting, confessing Jesus as Lord and saviour who is then their King.
When we read the New Testament we find something interesting in connection with the message of the kingdom of God that was proclaimed by John the Baptist, Jesus, the original 12 apostles, the apostle Paul, and the early Church. This interesting connection is that after the resurrection of Jesus the Scriptures say that the message being proclaimed was not just that the kingdom was at hand, but now they preached “JESUS”.
Acts 8:5 “And Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ to them.”
Remember that while Philip was proclaiming Jesus, he was also proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Acts 8:12
Acts 9:20 “and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues saying, ‘He is the Son of God.”
After Jesus was resurrected He returned to earth and spent 40 days with His followers:
Acts 1:3 “To these He also presented Himself alive, after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.”
This proclamation was Paul’s first message after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus.
In the modern day church, we say that the gospel is the good news. Today, when someone talks about the gospel, they are generally referring to the gospel of salvation. The message of salvation is good news, but it is only a small part of the gospel of the kingdom.
I am not trying to diminish its importance, but truth is truth. When all we focus on is the salvation message, we are leaving out the most important part of the gospel message. Remember that in the New Testament Jesus is referred to as Saviour only about 25 times, but He is referred to as the Lord over 600 times. The over-whelming role of Jesus is as the Lord and King of His kingdom.
So the Kingdom of God is established on earth via the church preaching the good news that they can change kingdoms and King. We now live in life and not death, no fear but have faith and peace, be righteous and not sinners and be free and not in bondage.
Being part of the Kingdom of God is more than escaping hell and going to heaven when we die until Jesus comes back. It is a way of life that should be part of the way we live. There are expectations of the King to act on what He has said. The Great Commission being a starting point. Kings always give commands and not suggestions. It is Jesus kingdom and not ours.
Mark 16:15-20 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
It is very important to realise that currently the Kingdom of God is a spiritual one however it will be a physical one when Jesus comes back at the second coming after the Great Tribulation. Jesus will set up a physical Kingdom ruled by Godly principles from Jerusalem in Israel and not in Heaven.
